sleepyhead

This is why people send their dogs to daycare:

Mendon went with Col to work today and she slept hard all evening, snores and all!

happy St. Patrick's Day 2013

Things I learned about St. Patrick today at church:

-the color associated with him is actually blue
-he was British
-he was captured and enslaved in Ireland
-he used the three leaf clover to explain the Trinity
-his mission was to spread the Gospel and Christianity in Ireland

I never knew any of that!

And here's how Col and I celebrate St. Patrick's Day every year:

We were able to get them at the second McDonald's that we went to.  I think the record was one year in college when I dragged all of my friends with me, and we drove to at least 3 McDonald's before we found one that hadn't run out or broken their shake machine.  C'mon, I can't be the only person who has to have one on actual St. Patrick's Day!

tales of a pseudo mommy

I recently got to babysit for our friends' 13 month old for three days while they were away, and I had a blast!  I was a little worried when I went to get her up the first morning, since I had come over super early so they could make their flight.  If she was surprised to see me instead of her mom or dad, she didn't show it at all.  And our time together was wonderful :)

From where I'm standin' there is seriously nothing like:
-being greeted with a smile every.single.time. you go to get a baby in the morning/from nap
-bath playtime
-sleepers/footie pj's.  I miss them myself (they were my pajama of choice until I was like...oh maybe say, 12?  Yup, I just admitted that.)
-being hindered from walking around because a little someone is standing against your legs holding on to them
-hearing baby babble from the monitor
-long walks talking about the squirrels and birds
-cuddly moments
-playing on the floor all day
-reading storybooks, especially my all-time favorite from when I was a kid, Goodnight Moon
-snuggling in the rocker before bed, watching eyes get sleepy

So thankful to our friends for entrusting us to watch their sweetheart.  We enjoyed your house, fireplace, and HGTV too ;)

Friday ramblings

The sunshine today is making me a little wacky.  I feel like it should be a lot warmer out, but I'll take the good mood that always comes when the sun decides to visit Rochester.

The dog that we are watching from Col's work went home today [ four days early ].
Mendon was so sad when Col came home from work without him.
I'm sure he's ecstatically happy to be back home and getting some rest after being at daycare all day and playing with her in the mornings and evenings.
This means that we get time with just our pooch for the first time since we adopted her!
Here's to seeing what living with one dog is like compared to having two, three, and even four at once.

Not gonna lie though, I'm looking forward to my three days living at our friends' house while I baby/house-sit for them while they are away.  I know for a fact that their little one sleeps longer, better, and more often than our puppy.
I love you Mendon, but this girl isn't used to waking up so early and is looking forward to some catch up sleep.  Even despite daylight savings.

[ the two days off of work aren't too bad either ;) ]

Hooray to Friday and the weekend, a long one [ for me ] at that!

P.S. I'm anxiously and happily awaiting news on two very special babies.  Our niece is due very, very soon and baby E not long after!
P.S.S. Right now, Dairy Queen is having a promotion: buy any Blizzard get the second for .99 cents! [ we already partook last night ]
P.S.S.S. We paid off another one of my student loans last week.  Only ONE more to go!!

dogs, dogs, everywhere!

What have we been up to you ask?

8 days : 3 large canines

26 hours : 4 large canines

Col and I have our own little side "business" of dog-sitting for our family, friends, and more recently through Colin's workplace.  And a while back when we agreed to watch a few dogs over the course of this month, we didn't know that this hunk of lovin' would be joining our world.

Therefore, we've had lots of furry, dog lovin' lately! :)

night #1: our friends' and their parents' two dogs

Sunday to Saturday: Mendon joins our family = two happy, tired pups and one grumpy pup

Saturday to Sunday: two happy, tired pups, one grumpy pup, and one newbie

Sunday evening: one still-ecstatic-at-new-friends pup and one adjusting pup

Monday evening: bonus visit from an energetic new friend = happy Mendon
this week: one pup getting used to less friends and one daycare-tired, but calmly obliging pup

Mendon goes to the vet

We took Mendon to her first vet visit with us today.  She was such a good girl (except I had to ambush her to get her on the scale - 76 pounds and growing!), and when we were finished and got back in the car, she promptly laid down and closed her eyes.  I guess going to the vet wipes her out!
